Gunfight

GUNFIGHT

Here's a little story how the west was won
The white man came and took out everyone
They used dirty blankets and they used machine guns
And they didn't think twice about what they'd done

Here's a little story 'bout Kevin Bacon
He had a bunch of money but he got taken
He got a bunch of lawyers and he tried to sue
But Bernie looked him and said " Hey f*ck you."

Don't bring a knife to a gunfight, you'll lose.
Don't bring a knife to a gunfight, you'll lose.

Here's a little story about the congressmen
They bailed out all of their billionaire friends
You can blame Bush, or you can try to blame Obama
But you should've f*ckin' learned from your daddy or your mama

That you don't bring a knife to a gunfight, you'll lose.

Some fights just ain't fair
Some fights just ain't fair
No some fights just ain't fair
Ya' don't bring a knife to a gunfight, you'll lose!

Here's a little story about Tiananmen Square
The people rose up and said "Life ain't fair."
Now they're sweating in a shop making iPhones thin
If you stand in front of tanks, the tanks are gonna win!

Don't bring a knife to a gunfight, you'll lose.
Don't bring a knife to a gunfight, you'll lose.

NO!

Edit: with help from a youtube poster and Tabitharees! Thank you!
Edit 8/5: I just fixed a couple small things so that they match the liner notes.

Based on the video below. I am missing that half line in the 3rd verse, so if anyone can get that, or if you hear something different than what i have, please let me know!

This week was the 24th anniversary of the massacre at Tiananmen Square. Thanks SP for reminding me that I reap the benefits of that regime. It is too easy to ignore the human rights violations that continue in China. But we shouldn't. We can't continue to ignore it for simple economic reasons. We may need to ask ourselves, how much is a life worth?

I love these lyrics. This is the most political that I have heard SP be, though "Cancer" is close.

Agreed, I love political statements in music, the riptide video is by far my favorite because of that.

Oh! Of course Riptide! Ha. Some lines in that song get under my skin, so i don't listen to it very often. "I won't get vaccinated" - Thanks for diminishing herd immunity! But the chorus is great, and i do love the video. It is great to do your own thing, and don't be judgemental, and all that good stuff, but at the same time you do have to think about how your actions impact other people, and that first verse really just irks me in that regard.

Aaaaanyway. Gunfight. Found this preview from last year.

Also, sorry about getting all preachy. I was in a weird mood. (more so than usual.) But this verse about Tiananmen Square is gold.

I think it's "you stand in front of tanks/the tanks are gonna win!". The part about Tienanmen Square is very clearer and easier to hear in the album preview.

Oh! You are totally right! I am fixing it now.

And actually, if you have a moment to look at "Die to Save You," there is a line that I can't make out and it is driving me batty.

This song is so "bouncy". If that makes sense. I'm not too crazy about all the effects on his voice on the recorded version, but like it sounds amaaaazing.

Yea...hmm idk. I can't get over the weird voice stuff. I like Die to Save You for that, or Walking Away...

I'd think Run would be the most obvious single wouldn't it? So bloody catchy and it's more pop-rock than hard-rock like TNGB which always does better on the radio (in Australia anyway - Maybe was played so much over here)

I think the 2nd one should be more rock since TNGB wasn't.

Haha. Yeah. I was trying to figure out "they bailed out all of their billionaire friends" but that was before the cd was released, so I was doing it from the live versions. I kinda jumped the gun on posting lyrics before the liner notes were out.... But it was so fun!

I have to say that I like this song much better live than on the CD.
Shim: You don't like Rage Against the Machine?
Me: I like one song.
Shim: Which one?
Me: Bulls on Parade.
Shim: F%&* off! HAHA
